Well folks it is official, Jesse Marsch is no longer the manager at Leeds United. After less than a year, the  leading man has been fired from his job. In all fairness when you put your bias aside, it is easy to see why, as Leeds has struggled to defend their own goal so far this season and they play a simple style of football where they just attempt to press you to death. The firing comes just a few days after a one to nothing loss in Nottingham Forest and less than a week after the impending transfer of Weston McKennie from Juventus.

The timing could not be more concerning as a United States men’s national team fan. As the United States men’s national team managerial job is still wide open and now you could potentially say Jesse Marsch may be one of the favorites. It also raises the question of whether Weston McKennie made the right choice to move from Juventus to Leeds to finish out the season. Leeds also still has another round of the FA cup to play and now they will have a caretaker in charge during that one as well.

Jesse Marsch Fired From Leeds United

Now, Brendan Aaronson, Tyler Adams, and Weston McKennie are hypothetically stranded at sea without a captain to lead the boat as the three young Americans felt comfortable being there because of their American manager. However, now that he’s gone it’ll be interesting to see what changes come as Leeds finishes out the season. They currently sit in 17th place of the English Premier League table and they are not far off of the relegation zone at all. The only thing keeping them out of the bottom three spot in the English Premier league is the fact that they have the better goal differential but that can change in a hurry. As they have a huge game against Manchester United, coming up within the next few days.

As a fan of the United States, when it comes to international soccer, I can surely say that I’m upset, but not at all surprised by the fact that Jesse Marsch was fired. This is his second big-time opportunity and a top five league, and it just hasn’t quite worked out for him either time. As he didn’t last long in the German Bundesliga either when he was the manager of RB Leipzig. He was never quite able to replicate the success that he had at Red Bull Salzburg during his time in the Austrian Bundesliga. In 37 games as the leading man for Leeds United, he only managed to pick up 11 victories and 10 draws in that time span.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what his next move is as there’s rumors that he could have a new team by the end of the week or the end of the month. However, as of right now all signs point to him potentially being the candidate for the USMNT job. Which will certainly bring on some controversial opinions and differing opinions, and some fans love him, and some fans certainly hate the way he coaches, and will look at him as a failure.
