After an incredible quarterfinals round over the weekend the 2023 CONCACAF gold cup semi finals have arrived and it has some familiar faces participating. As both of the giants of CONCACAF rose to the occasion, as the United States and Mexico will both be in action here on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile Panama returns to the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals and so does Jamaica for an epic rematch showdown with El Tri. After a thrilling game against Canada, the United States will take on Panama who walked over Qatar by a score of four to nothing. Jamaica outlasted Guatemala to earn their spot in the semifinals and a hard fought victory where only a single goal was scored. As for their opponents, Mexico took down Costa Rica by a score of two to zero.

Mexico vs Jamaica

  • Mexico is making their fourteenth appearance in the semifinals round
  • Mexico is making their ninth straight appearance in the semifinals round
  • Jamaica will be looking to make their third finals appearance in the last five editions of the Gold Cup
  • Jamaica will be making their fourth semifinals appearance in the last five editions of the Gold Cup

This game could arguably go either way, let’s both of these teams are more than capable of grabbing a victory here in the semifinal round on Wednesday night. Jamaica is arguably the favorites on paper but Mexico always seems to find a way when it comes to the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Jamaica will be without Cory Burke in this game after he picked up a late yellow card in the quarterfinal victory over Guatemala. Mexico was shut out in the first half against Costa Rica but they turned it on late to get a couple of late goals and pick up the victory. I expect this to be another hard-fought game that ends up with another scoreless first half but in the end I look for Jamaica to edge out Mexico and return to the finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

United States vs Panama

  • Panama is making their fifth appearance in the semifinals round
  • The United States is making their 12th straight appearance in the semifinals round
  • The United States will be looking to make their ninth finals appearance in the last ten editions of the Gold Cup
  • The United States will be looking to win their third consecutive Gold Cup and three out of the last four
  • Panama will be searching for the third finals appearance in their history and their first since 2013

The United States nearly crashed out of the quarterfinals round after a late Canadian goal last Sunday night. However, an own goal off of a Canadian defender tied the game back up and sent it into extra time. After an action filled 30 minutes of extra time, the game went to penalty kicks. It was in penalty kicks when Matt Turner stepped up to the plate and saved three Canadian penalties to help the United States advance to the semifinals round.

Panama absolutely blasted Qatar with four goals in a runaway performance to put themselves into Wednesday night’s semifinal match up. This one is going to be a close and competitive contest between two solid teams but in the end, I think the United States prevails and returns to the finals to face-off with the winner of the Jamaica and Mexico game.
