The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in Paris has caused quite a stir after a group of performers seemingly mimicked the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting “The Last Supper” during a dance routine. The outrage in question sparked because some of the members of the choreographed scene were dressed in drag, so right-wingers and Christians all over the world have been expressing their outrage all over social media throughout the last couple of days.

The act in question featured 18 different performers behind a long table, much like Jesus and his 12 apostles were featured in the Leonardo da Vinci painting. The biggest comparison people have been making is the fact that the woman in the middle had something silver on her head that, according to many people, resembled a halo.

Unfortunately, the part that upsets people the most is the fact that some of the performers were dressed in drag, because despite the fact that it is 2024, people are still willfully ignorant when it comes to others expressing themselves how they like. As previously mentioned, it has sparked plenty of outrage online over the last few days, and there are plenty of people on both sides of the political table with opinions on the subject.

It has led to a lot of people saying that they will be skipping out on the Olympics or that they will never watch this prestigious event again. With “cancel culture” being such a big part of the culture these days, this is once again a situation where people’s outrage may be a little bit ridiculous in the opinion of others. As many people think, having an absolute meltdown over a choreographed performance that was pulled from a famous Renaissance painting might be a new low on the bar of ridiculous things people throw a fit about.

Paris is a city of culture and a city full of expression, and with the Olympics still in their earliest phase at the moment, there are plenty more incredible moments to come through the next couple of weeks. Simply refusing to watch this spectacle of a sporting event that only comes around once every four years is ignorance upon oneself, created by false outrage driven by the mainstream media and people like Elon Musk on X. In a world where free speech is often preached but not quite practiced the way it is supposed to be, flash mobs of outrage like this one have become a daily occurrence. /tw

But overall, how do you feel about the events that took place at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics? Will you continue to watch the games throughout their entirety, or will you allow social media, uproar, and peer pressure to stop you from experiencing a once-in-a lifetime event in the most beautiful city in the world? Do you believe that they were attempting to mock the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting, The Last Supper? Or do you simply believe it was just paying homage to one of the most influential paintings of the Renaissance? Unfortunately, in today’s age, you cannot simply separate sports from politics, although a certain group of people are constantly calling for that but doing the opposite.
